"You new?"

"Yes."

"You don't sound like you come from round here".

"I don't; I came via London and Newcastle"

"Really? You've got a strong "Dawrzit" (Dorset) accent."

"Well, that's very nice. I like Dorset. I didn't think I had an accent, and have always wondered/confused people trying to work it out."

Me and the customer both laugh. :)

And the odd thing is, (as greenwyrd , and I hasten to add, sollersuk would tell you), different parts of Dorset have different accents), I thought back on hearing my voice, which I used to hate, as I thought it sounded thick and claggy,  and I thought I must come across as stupid and dull, but recalling, Hey! What joy, Jeeves!  It sounds "Dawrzit Shire" to me.  And no arguing, that's aimed at any excellent linguists, Yes, I'm looking at you, Master of all Accents and Dialects.  Because it made my day.  And slapped down the above worry about how I come across and sound to people.  I am very very happy!
