"You new?"

"Yes."

"You don't sound like you come from round here".

"I don't; I came via London and Newcastle"

"Really? You've got a strong "Dawrzit" (Dorset) accent."

"Well, that's very nice. I like Dorset. I didn't think I had an accent, and have always wondered/confused people trying to work it out."

Me and the customer both laugh. :)

And the odd thing is, (as [info]greenwyrd , and I hasten to add, [info]sollersuk would tell you), different parts of Dorset have different accents), I thought back on hearing my voice, which I used to hate, as I thought it sounded thick and claggy,  and I thought I must come across as stupid and dull, but recalling, Hey! What joy, Jeeves!  It sounds "Dawrzit Shire" to me.  And no arguing, that's aimed at any excellent linguists, Yes, I'm looking at you, Master of all Accents and Dialects.  Because it made my day.  And slapped down the above worry about how I come across and sound to people.  I am very very happy!

Over and out, ferm Worzel Gummidge. Ooh Aaarr.  And I have no problem with that.  :) :) :)

If you'd even spent as many Darzit Nights with the Middle Bar Singers as I have, I would understand it!

*bows* I was thinking of them as I typed the guttural? dialect. Heeehhhheeehhh! You would have indeed. Secret languages of England unite!

I feel honoured and good and strong as any bold man (I suppose that should be woman) but the Shakespeare and rar! is upon me. Seriously I feel very strongly about this, and I am so seriously chuffed. :) :) :)

The whole joke is the extent of Darzit. Inner Darzit covers the rest of England. Outer Darzit covers Europe. The suburbs of Darzit covers the rest of the world, and the outer fringes take in the Solar System.

So definitely Worzel Gummidge (or conceivably Aunt Sally) to you!

Thinking on that. Sidmouth generally? Growing up listening to the Yetties, in my own world - ahah! :)

Once you've lived in Yorkshire long enough you'll start to recognise the huge difference in accents there.

Its harder now than it used to be since people travel more, but you can usually tell the town people come from, and if you have a very good ear then sometimes even the village.

I used to be at recognising where people came from, now I seem to have misplaced that skill. We certainly get lots of Yorkshire from customers and colleagues, especially the "T" as "I'll get round t' that in a bit".

I really like the rural accents. :)

There are huge variations in Darzet accents :) In fact, random dorset accents even featured on the local news last week! I am not sure what accent I have. I don't think I have one! Which is rather boring really, I want to sound all proper and west country-ish :)

Worzel Gummidge! I LOVED that programme :)

Though a few people seem to think it's a bad thing. Which p****s me off. I think it's been through the folk festivals. I wihs I could stamp on my feelings of caring. It makes me feel so good, what does it matter. Be strong, be strong. :(

Thank you! Very Big Hugs.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Aw! =/ I know it's easier said than done but why care what others think, it made you smile and made you happy (as well as relieved)!! Don't waste your energy; it's nothing to do with anyone else anyway! *big hugs* =)

It's alright. I had a little word. I don't think they realised what it meant to me. What happened to me not being offended by anything? Hah! Oh that will come back the way it clicked. Ommmmmmmm. Hehhhehehhhhhh!!! It's lots of things, (in terms of not caring, unfortunately I do, I'd go librarian, left to my own devices ;) ) but I love epiphanies, they really pave new paths to a more ethereal and cheered and happy me. Oh to live in the world of my imagination.

Big hugs to you too. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My accent is a mystery to me, it definetly isn't South London, people have said its a Sussex accent..which is odd because I've never been there.
